Gus Poyet warns players of a summer ‘clear out’ at Brighton and Hove Albion

Gus Poyet warns players of a summer ‘clear out’Brighton and Hove Albion manager has issued a stern warning to his squad players saying that he is going to have a “clear out” come the end of the season.

After a positive string of results in early 2012, the League One champions have faltered slightly and their push for the play-offs seems to now be over.

Brighton have lost their last three matches and Poyet seems very displeased. He told the BBC that he is going to be “a little bit more harsh” this summer as he looks to offload some of the fringe players in his squad.

Poyet said: “I think we were very fair with the squad that won the league last year. Now comes the ugly part.

“The ones that will be out will think I’m a bad manager or a bad person and I didn’t give them a chance.”

He seemed very cutting with his comments and added that the players had no excuses as they have “had their chance”.

He also went on to admit that after losing their last three games to Burnley, Reading and West Ham, his side’s hopes of finishing in the top six were now fading drastically.

Poyet stated that it was nearly impossible due to the fact that his side has “lost the momentum”.

He ended by saying:”We’re still a decent Championship team. We need to keep improving. That’s my aim.”
