Open Market plans approved

Approval has been granted to provide dozens of affordable homes and a continental style market in the London Road area of Brighton.

Redevelopment work at Open Market will now see 44 permanent market stalls and a central square built on the site, paid for by 87 affordable homes. Building work looks set to commence in March, with the project taking up to two years to complete.

Planning committee chairman Councillor Lynda Hyde said: “We approved this plan because it brings in millions of pounds in investment, creating a potentially wonderful new market to help regenerate London Road.

“It will also provide dozens of energy-efficient homes for local people. It will be tremendous to get another major development off the ground, alongside the new Amex HQ and Falmer Stadium.”
